In this study of Jesus’ prayer, Brian Russell describes John 17 as the Mount Everest of the Himalayan Range of divinely revealed truth in the fourth Gospel. As we listen in to the words of the Lord Jesus praying to His Father, the heart of our Saviour is revealed, pleading for us as our Great High Priest. If we were to meditate on this passage for the rest of our days, we would still not be able to scale its sublime heights.

This book will help any Christian understand these riches better. The language is easy to understand, but the concepts are profound. The comprehensive nature of the prayer, so helpfully expounded, provides a firm grounding for a believer’s walk with God. It is encouraging, spiritual and edifying and will bring God-glorifying changes to our lives.

A devotional commentary on this remarkable prayer is a challenge indeed. Brian Russell has done well in taking up that challenge. He has drawn upon past godly men who have written and preached at length on this great prayer, but yet produced something also unique and relevant to us as the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ today. It is my delight to commend this gem of a book to a wider readership.’  From the Foreword by Patrick Johnstone, Author of Operation World.

Brian A. Russell was born in South Africa and was converted at the age of seventeen. After working in the gold-mining industry for six years, he studied at the University of South Africa and the Baptist Theological College, Johannesburg, before entering the pastoral ministry in 1962. He has served churches in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Virginia, USA (where he now lives). He and his wife, Muriel, have three grown children. He is the author of Baptism – Sign and seal of the Covenant of Grace and Totally committed to Christ.
